5 out of 5 stars A+++ BUT Only one problem....   July 24, 2010

I love this acer monitor it's perfect display good size...am using it with my Mac mini at 1080p and looks really nice.
My problem is that you will NOT be able to mount on the wall cause of the stand.
If you don't care about mounting it then its perfect.
Got mine in two days, I looked for cheaper price on others site but Amazon has the best price and really fast shipping.

5 out of 5 stars Pretty nice!   June 30, 2010

I went from a 19" full screen to this. While this is definitely wider (by a lot), the height is about the same so at first it doesn't seem like a lot more screen real estate. If you have never used a 24" before and are afraid it will look too massive, don't worry. I had the same fears, but it looks pretty nice sitting on my desk, not too big but big enough to make people a little envious.

The colors are pretty good right out of the box. It could use a little tweaking, but it's not so bad that I can't enjoy it the way it is.

I like the base, I wish it had a mount option, but since there isn't one, I am glad it's not bad looking. I can't comment on the speaker, because I never will use it. The menu options are a little weird to use at first, but they are fairly simple and easy to get used to.

The screen is nice and bright, and mine had no dead pixels on delivery.

Amazon packaging was a little iffy like already mentioned, but acer did a nice job of keeping my new baby safe.

I really don't see any cons with this monitor, so far I love it!

BTW, I didn't see that it mentioned it when I bought it, but it comes with an HDMI cable.

4 out of 5 stars Simple, Functional, Good Quality   June 24, 2010

EXTERNAL QUALITY:

I chose this one over the competing Samsung XL-2370 model even though they were similarly priced (approximately $280) because I like (1) the Acer's shape - which is a sleek, plain rectangular shape, (2) the sturdy aluminum stand, and (3) because the screen was an inch bigger (24") than the Samsung model (23"). Also, I didn't like Samsung's casing - an acryllic plastic which looks rather "cheapy" (although it does look a bit fancy).

With regard to the speaker, I haven't used it yet because I rely on my external speakers, but I will say it looks to be cheaply made - I can gently push my finger on the speaker face and it will sink in some because the face of the speaker is covered by a thin weak sheet of metal/plastic (can't tell). Had the speaker been of better build-quality I would have given the Acer an overall rating of 5 stars instead of 4.

One other highlight: I like how the screen doesn't get warm even with extended use. Good ol' LED technology!

INTERNAL QUALITY:

The quality of the screen is good, but a caveat is that I'm not too picky about picture quality because I use it for basic computing and the occasional movie. It has worked perfectly fine for performing those basic tasks.

CONCLUSION:

If I could go back in time I would buy it again.

2 out of 5 stars lacks versatility, adjustment   June 20, 2010

This monitor has 3 things going for it&many negative things about mount&use. It's by far the crispiest, brightest picture of any I saw with a maximum 8-million:1 contrast ratio compared to Lcds i've seen that have a maximum 80 thousand:1.It consumes less power, runs a lot cooler. It's light&slim, which hardly matters when it is setting on a desk on it's OEM base. Now the negatives, which are many&pronounced:Acer calls it an LED screen but on the guide&printed elsewhere it's called an LCD,so who knows?More importantly, this monitor, being extremely light&slim, would be most ideal for wall mounting either on a swivel arm or directly, except for one major detail:Acer provided no mounting alternatives other than the base! It can't be mounted to anything other than the base because it doesn't have the usual 3 15/16 inch square mounting point in its center that 99.99% of all other monitors have, plus all the controls&connections are in the OEM base that cannot be removed. So you have no mounting alternatives for this monitor except the OEM base, which is elegant but extremely nonfucntional! With a full range tilt of only 10 degrees&no swivel or height adjustment, you can point it way down but just a smidge up beyond vertical position! In fact,I've a wedge under my base right now to provide more backward titl! & the on-screen programmable features? They automatically go out so fast that you better not hesitate or even blink before the display goes out. I changed the OSD to 30 seconds which was better, except when i turned the monitor off&back on,it went back to the 10 second,so it is very frustrating to program. Most importantly:Its MTBF (estimated lifespan in hours) is only 15000 (a spec you don't see until you buy it and open it) which is like 625 days or less than 2 years.Personally, that scared me because I use the computer a lot. But all the monitors try to hide that spec so I still don't know how it compares with others.I know I've had my 17-inch Dell on the same PC for 7 years&it still works perfectly. Somehow I don't think I'll get near the same service life out of this Acer & I think this is quite illustrative of how all businesses routinely scam us with shoddy, poorly designed products&misleading information. Also,it has the oldest, most antiquated monitor connection there is,the blue analog vga connection, along with 2 of the latest, hdmi, leaving out a middle one,the digital white DVI connection which provides a much better signal than the blue one if your computer has that, but to connect DVI to this monitor, you have to buy an adapter to HDMI for it.
