Good find August 28, 2010 Benjamin Lemenager Works great with USB, not sure if my eSATA is working or not but this is not connecting with my eSATA and this is the reason I bought it.
These guys are rally awful August 17, 2010 R. B. Meyer (Northbrook, IL) Well, it's my fault that I didn't read the reviews before I bought this turkey. After about 16 months it's failed, probably with a head crash, based on the noise. I registered the product and then called Customer (Non-)Support and the cut me off five times. I then punched "0" and left a message for which I don't expect a response. I also sent a copy of the invoice to support asking for an RMA and I really don't expect to hear from them either.
Good lesson learned. Stay away from AcomData. They are even worse than one star - it's too bad you can't give zero stars.
No problems. July 26, 2010 C. Amico (Camarillo, CA United States) This is a great product. I have had no problems with is so far. It's quiet & quick, what else do you need? I would buy another if I needed it.
I love this drive July 1, 2010 Maynard Handley (Pasadena, CA United States) I've owned a lot of hard drives over the years, and this 1TB unit from acomdata has to be my favorite.
Let me count the ways.
- It's small, much smaller than the competition
- It has a nice clean shape that stacks easily, not the weird curves and bulbs of some drives
- It runs very cool and very quiet
- It handles power cycling well --- it sleeps when it's not in use, and wakes up when it's needed, without balking. (You might think this is trivial, but I've had multiple drives from other vendors that have a 10% chance of hanging themselves when they wake from sleep.)
- It delivers the performance I expect (over USB 2, so not great, but what can you do). I don't have an eSATA port, so I can't comment on its eSATA performance.
- Really, my only complaint is that I wish it included an FW800 port
One more thing. When I bought this, it was the only drive at the time that was smart enough to include correct instructions for how to format the drive for a Mac (which involves a non-obvious process of changing the partition type from MBR to GUID). All the competitors either did not care about mac, or were too stupid to include a slip of paper in their box explaining this procedure --- they'd rather eat the tech support calls and returns. This indicates to me a company slightly more "with it" than their competition.
I've had this drive what, over two years now, and it continue to delight me --- the one drive in my sea of drives that has never once given me reason to complain.
I see a few people complaining that their drives failed, and I don't know --- maybe I was lucky, or maybe the manufacturer switched from WD to Seagate drives as the internal drive? All I can say is that the model I bought, quite some time ago, is fantastic.
Saving me at work June 15, 2010 Judith Herwer (Port Townsend WA) Had a back up that my boss used that had died unexpectedly, and had on the same day, another hard drive that our bookkeeper used that was not compatible with his new computer. Ordered 2 of this hard drive and had it within 3 days, plugged them in, and bingo everyone was back to being able to back up daily with no training or hassles. The price is more than fair and shipping was quick.
